Top 200 Seniors: #14 Charles Burrell

Charles Burrell burst onto the scene a year ago, turning in an impressive junior season at quarterback and safety for Detroit Southeastern. Although teammate Fred Smith would grab most of the headlines, many close to the Jungaleer program felt it was Burrell who was the team's most valuable player.

The name kept coming up. Charles Burrell, Charles Burrell, Charles Burrell. It seemed like every time I looked in the paper, there he was with a strong statline. This was last season and Charles was putting his name on the map.

Finally, late in the season, I saw him play and realized, not only is this kid a pretty good QB, he's an excellent safety prospect as well. Later on that January, I saw him again at the U.S. Army Junior Combine and saw him do well in receiver drills.

That describes Charles Burrell right there. Simply put, he is a great athlete and a great football player. Michigan State offered him as a safety and he committed. Now there are a couple programs who are still recruiting him as a dual threat QB. No matter where he ends up or what position he plays, Burrell has the tools to make an impact in college.

Athletic ability, versatility and football instincts, all that and more make up Charles Burrell, our 14th rated senior prospect for 2008.
