Trieu Prospect Blog: Jason Harvey
Jason Harvey

Michigan Varsity's blog series continues, bringing you a first hand look at some of state's best sleeper prospects. This week, we introduce you to Grand Rapids Catholic Central's Jason Harvey.
NAME: Jason Harvey
POSITION: DT/FB
WHY HE's A TRIEU PROSPECT: This big man can move! Could be a jumbo fullback (great lead blocker) in college or be a disruptive defensive tackle.
It was two years ago that I was at a Grand Rapids Catholic Central game scouting their star running back
Obi Ezeh
, now a linebacker at
Michigan
. Although Ezeh had a great game that day, a sophomore fullback and defensive tackle caught my eye.
Jason Harvey
was about 5'11, 240-lbs then, he's 6'1, 270 now and still a punishing lead blocker and ball carrier. He has also played some linebacker in addition to defensive tackle, but I see him as a penetrating interior player rather than someone who play on his feet at the next level.
"
Central Michigan
invited me to their spring game," he said of his recruitment, "
Penn State
sent me some stuff and I got a letter from the assistant coach, so I have to send back a questionnaire."
Harvey also plans to attend the scout.com combine in Chicago, that is, if track doesn't get in the way, as Harvey competes in the shot put and discus.
As for his plans after school and the track season are completed, he is unsure about which school camps he will attend, but he did know one for sure. "I'm definitely going to Michigan's summer camp," he reported, "I went to
Notre Dame
last summer, but I don't know about this year yet."
As for the maize and blue, they certainly seem like a school that would be interested as Harvey's teammates, Ezeh and OT
Mark Huyge
have chosen Michigan the past two years.
"Everyone always asks me about Michigan," he said, "but I don't really know where all that talk came from, I don't hear much from them."
But Huyge also came into last year's camp an unknown player and had a good camp. Eventually he earned an offer and committed. A similar performance and Harvey could make it a trifecta for Catholic Central and the Wolverines.
