Shane's ranking has been much debated this year. His doubters are plenty, and with Devin Gardner at Michigan, it's unlikely we'll find out which side is right for a couple of years. That's a good thing for Morris, as he'll get to sit and learn. There has never been a question about arm strength, as he can make all the throw. He also has the intangibles to handle the expectations and scrutiny he'll be under.

Elmer has the size, the mobility and also the smarts to be a great one for the Irish. He has put in the work too, training with former NFL All-Pro Lomas Brown. He's developed some of that mean streak he lacked early in his career while refining his technique. In a great offensive line class for ND, he stands out because of his athleticism.

There have been a long line of Cass Tech corners who go on to play at the college level. Lewis is the next, and of all of them, may have had the best two-way career. He could have been a BCS level receiver too, but his athleticism and ball skills will serve him well as a cornerback in Ann Arbor. He finishes his career as a two time state champion as well.

As a sophomore, he played defensive end, then moved to middle linebacker last year and had a good year. As a senior, with one more year under his belt, he took it to yet another level. Reschke was dominant his final season and lead the Warriors to a state title. He's tough, physical, has a nose for the football and the speed to get there. He's also a tireless worker who is only getting bigger and stronger.

Dawson moved down to Texas as a junior and watched his former team win a state title, but then came back as a senior and won it with his guys. He also committed to Michigan, looked elsewhere, then came back and re-pledged to the Wolverines. He's gone up against the best from camps to the Under Armour game and always performed well and never backed down from a challenge.

"Big Baby" as he is called has always had the size, and it was this summer where he really put everything together. At 6'7, 290-lbs with good athleticism and long arms, Finley simply needs some seasoning and time in a college weight program and you may be looking at a next level guy. He has that type of talent. He chose MSU over Ohio State and Wisconsin offers and stuck with them when Michigan offered late.

Hill emerged from the shadow of a talented secondary he played in as a junior to grab his own spotlight and offers during the spring and summer before his senior year. An Iowa commit since the summer, he chose Michigan after the Wolverines offered this winter. At 6'1, 190-lbs, he ran a 4.44 at The Opening, and is just as comfortable in coverage as he is coming up and making tackles in the box.

Shallman was a force for CC since his sophomore year on both sides of the ball. As a ball carrier, not many 250-lb kids have his athleticism and ability to cut and move. He also is a good receiver out of the backfield. He offers the Wolverines many options as far as how to play him. Expect to see him at fullback at times, tailback at others, and H-Back in other situations.

One of my colleagues saw how thick Hill was at an event and remarked to me that he was a future guard. After watching him run routes and catch passes, he not only changed that tune, but felt Hill was one of the best tight ends in the class. He has soft hands, great route running skills and is a solid blocker. Like Shallman, Michigan should be able to move him around and play him in the backfield, on the line and even in the slot at other times.

Dillard was Canton's pancake machine for the last few years. He's a dominating run blocker, and set to move from tackle to center down in Gainesville. He's been working hard to improve his pass blocking, something he did not do a ton of at Canton, but he's tough, strong and a hard worker. He also has a chip on his shoulder, as neither in-state Big Ten school offered, and you can bet he'll be looking to make them regret that.

I think Jones may end up being the steal of this class in the state. He's big, runs well and had a great senior year. I think a lot of programs are going to wish they had gone after him harder.

After being injured as a junior, Holmes showed his talents as a senior. He's a good sized back with great balance and he runs tough. All of that should help him alleviate the early draft entry of Leveon Bell.

Jones is going to surprise some people. He has the size (6'2, 185), ball skills and open field ability to be a threat in college. I think people didn't realize how good he was this year. They'll see his talent soon. |

How about NC State coming into Michigan and grabbing two of the state's top guys? Gibbs is quick and disruptive, and turned it on during Cass Tech's playoff run. He seemed to live in the opposing backfield. |

Iowa stole this one from Ball State. King is one of the best pure football players in the state. He's a ballhawk, and reminds me of Antwan Allen, who was an All-League guy for the Hawkeyes.

If you've seen York go up and get a football or play basketball, you know he's athletic. Long with great leaping ability, he will be stepping up in competition, but has a lot of athletic gifts.

Maclean has been one of the state's best since his sophomore year. He's big, strong and can stand up or play with his hand down. I think his best spot at Pitt may be as an edge rusher.

Allen finished strong, putting together a great senior year, including a big game in a win over Cass. Had some Big Ten offers, flirted with a few others, but will be a steal for NIU.

This kid is tough, strong and plays mean. He could play on either side of the ball, but no matter where he is, you know you're going to always get his maximum effort.

Illinois was White's only offer, but don't let that fool you. He's nearly 6'6, 230-lbs and athletic enough to have played tailback and run track, where he once clocked a 10.78 in the 100m dash.

One of the most dangerous guys the state had with the ball in his hand, Chapman has the skills to transition from QB to WR in college and continue making the big plays he did in high school for CMU.

Edwards is a big get for the Gophers. He's a hard working kid with a track background. He's built college ready, and may have an opportunity to see some early carries for the Gophers.

I'm not sure many around the state really know much about this kid, but put the film on. He's light on his feet, agile and plays with a motor. May not be the biggest guy, but he's a handful for opposing OL.

Chadwell is an athletic kid with good technique. He just needs to add some weight, which he got a head start on doing by enrolling early at Illinois. Could move inside in college.

He got some late BCS interest, but stuck with Western, where I think he'll be the next in a line of great ends the Broncos have had. He's long and quick.

Redding has some of the best ball skills I've ever seen. That's not an exaggeration. Makes a lot of wow plays. Skinny, but he'll add weight in college, and expect him to be on a few BG highlight reels.

Rogers stuck with the Rockets despite a late offer from Illinois. He's what you want in a DB as far as length. He has experience at both corner and safety as well.

A one time Cincinnati commit, Gourdine was a nice get for the Falcons. He impressed us at camps over the summer with his ability to cover at 6'2.

Burst onto the scene as a senior. Has speed, elusiveness and that natural knack for making big plays. Some even felt he was the state's best receiver. Could be a real steal for the Broncos.
