Jones Sold on Doeren's Winning Ways

It was the official visit which sealed the deal for Walled Lake Western (Mich.) safety Josh Jones, who gave his verbal commitment to North Carolina State shortly before leaving Raleigh.

Josh Jones was committed to Toledo for a time, then to Illinois for several months. This third time should be the charm though, as the 6'2, 195-lb safety has committed to North Carolina State, where he truly feels like he found a home.

"It's a blessing," he said. "I prayed every day on it for God to give me the sign and I feel like I made the right decision. It feels good to know that I'm signing my letter of intent to a good school outside of football, academics too, and it feels good."

Jones was also considering Pittsburgh, who he took an official visit with a few weeks back, but the Wolfpack's new coaches swayed him over to their side.

"Coach Doeren is a winner. He proved that at Northern Illinois, going to the Orange Bowl being at a MAC school. The coaching staff wants to win now. They don't think about down the line. Then the facilities, atmosphere, and the fans around there are crazy."

Jones says they plan to play him at strong safety, where he feels he has a chance to compete for a starting spot right away.

The icing on the cake for him was that aside from that potential for early playing time, the coaching staff, and anything related to helmets and x's and o's, Jones believes he found a place he can be for the next four or five years.

"The campus was big and the area was very nice and it was a place I can see myself outside of football relaxing and just being around the town enjoying it and loving every part of it."

Jones is the Wolfpack's second commitment from the state of Michigan, joining Detroit Cass Tech defensive tackle Kenton Gibbs.

Scout Evaluation: Jones is a big, physical safety who has played corner and returned kicks in high school. He's athletic, has the length you look for and has good closing speed. He can play in the deep part of the field, but his willingness to come up and support the run makes him an idea fit for the strong safety spot in college. May be one of the more under-appreciated players in the Midwest. Recommended Stories
