Top Spartans: Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl

Connor Cook

Spartan Digest names our Top Spartans from Saturday's win over TCU in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.

For the last time this season Spartan Digest recognizes the performances of a couple of members of the Michigan State football program by handing out our Top Spartan honors for those Spartans we feel played a huge role in the Spartans success on the field. Each week during the season we've handed out Top Spartans honors to the following.

Top Spartan: The one player who played the biggest role in the success of the team in that week's game.

Top Spartan Offense: Player other than the Top Spartan who helped the offense to have success on the field.

Top Spartan Defense: Player other than the Top Spartan who helped the defense to have success on the field.

Top Spartan

Le'Veon Bell – Running Back

This is no surprise as Bell has been the workhorse all season and continued his success after a slow start by posting 145 yards rushing on 32 carries and one touchdown. Was this Bell's final game as a Spartan? We'll soon find out as many already have the Ohio native penciled in as a high level draft pick.

Top Spartan Offense

Connor Cook – Quarterback

Leading up to this game no one would have guessed the redshirt freshman would even be in the running. However, given a few early snaps in the game, Cook showed enough to get another call from the Spartans coaching staff and delivered to the point of where he was also called upon for the most critical drive of the game.

Top Spartan Defense

William Gholston – Defensive End

Some have felt Gholston had a less than stellar season this fall. However, his nine tackles and one sack were keys to the Spartans holding TCU from taking total control of the game in the first half. Like Bell, many wonder if this was the last time Gholston will wear the Green & White.
