Warren De La Salle linebacker Jared Wangler is generating recruiting interest after a strong junior campaign.
“I thought I had a pretty good year, ”said Wangler, who finished with 86 tackles on the season. “I bounced around positions. One of our linebackers went down, so they moved me to more of a linebacker spot…I really enjoyed it. I had a really fun season. I thought I played pretty well against one of the toughest schedules in the area.”
At 6-foot-2, 208-pounds, Wangler played both safety and outside linebacker for the Pilots (5-4) this past season. While his natural position is at safety, he says he is open to playing either position at the next level.
“I am open to an outside linebacker position, strong safety position,” said Wangler, who ran a 4.56 forty at the Michigan camp this past summer. “I did all defensive back stuff in the off-season last year. I know how to play safety and everything. I also know how to play linebacker too.”
Currently, Wangler has no offers, but is gained interest from Akron, Syracuse, Miami (OH), Michigan, Ohio State and Eastern Michigan. However, one team has been showing him the most interest in his recruitment so far.
“I’d say Akron probably by far is giving me the most interest,” Wangler said. “They’ve been sending me a bunch of stuff every day. I like the school. I have seen them play a few times. It seems like a good school.”
When Wangler makes his college decision, he says there is one major factor in his college choice.
“Academics will probably be the biggest factor,” Wangler said on his decision factors. “Wherever fits best, wherever feels right. I’m looking into my future after sports.”
As far as a decision timeline, when the offers start to pile in, Wangler says he would like to make an early commitment.
“I wouldn’t want to drag it out too long. I would like to make my commitment before my senior year. I would like to get it out of the way and focus on football.”
