Gourdine Talks Ball State and Illinois

Farmington (Mich.) junior safety Isaiah Gourdine talks about his recent Illinois Junior Day visit and recent offer from Ball State.

Farmington (Mich.) 6-foot-2, 185-pound junior safety Isaiah Gourdine recently visited Illinois Junior Day and says it was an enjoyable visit.

"Illinois was great." Gourdine said. "The campus was amazing. Although there were a lot of players there I was able to talk with Defensive Back Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. They were both really nice and I hope to receive an offer from Illinois in the near future."

Gourdine also took another visit to Ball State, this wasn't his first time on Ball State's campus but says he stilled enjoyed the visit.

"This was my second time visiting Ball State." Gourdine replied. "I had the pleasure last summer of visiting Ball State when I attended a 7 on 7 camp there. However, this time I was able to acquire a better feel for the campus."

Gourdine received an offer from the Ball State, the day after his visit.

"It was great to receive an offer from them." Gourdine said. "I have always had a good relationship with the coaching staff since last summer and it was an amazing feeling to receive the offer."

Gourdine was happy to receive the offer from Ball State but also said there was an intriguing twist to their plans for him defensively.

"They said there is a big possibility I could play Outside Linebacker for them." Gourdine replied. "They feel that because of my coverage skill set I could do a good job covering the running backs and etc. They also noticed on my film that I blitz well, so they plan to use that to their advantage. They would mainly focus on getting me stronger and bigger to prep for me for that position.

Gourdine says he doesn't mind playing Linebacker but still feels his best position is at Safety.

"I am always open to helping my team in any way that I can." Gourdine said. "Yet I still feel that I at my best in the secondary. They still say there is a possibility that I may play in the secondary but right now they are thinking Linebacker. As of now I am fine with it but when it comes to commitment time, this will be something I take very seriously."

Gourdine now has a total of four offers, including Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Cincinnati and Ball State. Gourdine will be attending Central Michigan Junior Day on March 17th and hopes to receive an offer from them while he is there.
