Williams Gaining Recognition and Offers

Southfield Lathrup junior guard/wing Jonathan Williams talks about his present offers, growing college interest and college visit plans.

Southfield Lathrup junior 5-foot-8, 160-pound guard/wing Jonathan Williams was somewhat unknown last year. Williams went from being unknown to one of the big time players in the state of Michigan. Williams currently has interest from Detroit Mercy, Penn State, Duquesne, Western Michigan, Boston College and Toledo.

"It's great to have interest from different schools." Williams replied. "I receive mail and calls from these schools all the time and I look forward to earning offers from them.

Williams has averaged 20 plus points per game and has even had a couple 30 and 40 point games which has earned him offers from Toledo, Cleveland State, Florida International and Eastern Michigan.

"It's great to have offers all three schools." Williams replied. "I have had the opportunity to talk to the head coaches of these schools and they are all great coaches."

Williams has had the pleasure of visiting a couple of facilities.

"I have visited Eastern Michigan, Detroit Mercy and Toledo campuses." Williams said. "Pretty much everywhere I went I enjoyed myself. I had fun at the games and I also enjoyed the facilities. I look forward to visiting more schools."

Williams recently attended the Eastern Michigan versus Toledo game where he received the offer.

"It was great to receive an offer from Toledo." Williams replied. "It was great experience, the coaches took me on tour of the arena and the facilities. After that I was taken to the coach's office and they told me they were offering me a full ride scholarship."

Williams has been on few visits and seen plenty of college teams play but says Toledo has impressed him the most so far.

"I loved everything about Toledo." Williams replied. "The arena was great, the fans were great. I was told they rank either 1st or 2nd in fan capacity in their conference, which was huge for me, I definitely love to play in front of a great crowd."

Williams also appreciated the coaching tactics and strategy and even receive some interesting information.

"I was told I could receive immediate playing time as a freshman." Williams said. "Playing time as a freshman is always huge factor for me. I was also told that grades are huge priority there, which is another strong factor for me. Lastly I like the fact that the coaches let the players play their game and play to their strengths."

Williams says he is nowhere near close to making a decision but says when the time comes he will sit down with his father to make the decision.

"When it comes to make a college decision, I am not even close right now." Williams replied. "The main thing I am looking for is an opportunity to start as a freshman and have a key role. So once I am ready to make the decision, I will sit with my father and we will discuss which school is the best fit for me."

Williams hopes to do some more unofficial visits over the summer and plans to improve his game even more over the AAU Season.
