2013 guard Austin Price of Detroit Country Day has high expectations for his team to win a Class B State Championship this season, so I sat down with Price and discussed his hopes and plans for the upcoming playoffs.
Question:
The playoffs are right around the corner, how far do you believe Country Day will go this season in the playoffs?
Answer:
I anticipate that we will win the Class B State Championship this season. There is no question in my mind at all. I know my team and what we are capable of and I believe this is our time to win it all.
Question:
Why do you feel that your team will be the team to win it all for Class B?
Answer:
Are team is coming along at the right and perfect time. As a team we are complete, we have a good point guard who can create, we have scorers, we have defenders, we have good coaches and lastly we have experience.
Question:
What team(s) stands in the way of you winning the Class B State Championship?
Answer:
The main teams that stand in our way are Detroit Crockett and Lansing Sexton. Crockett poses a problem because they are young, athletic and have a tendency to out- work and out-hustle their opponents. Lansing Sexton is similar to us; they have great players who can make great plays like Denzel Valentine and Anthony Clemmons, plus they have been there before and have won it before.
Question:
What exact members of your team do you believe need to step up for you all to win?
Answer:
Honestly we all need to step up and that includes me. Each member of the team has an important role and we will need each player to play their role and step it up a notch in the playoffs.
Question:
Over the course of this season, you have truly blossomed and become more of key member on the team; do you feel more is expected of you in the playoffs?
Answer:
Yeah I definitely believe my coaches and teammates are counting on me more now. My playing time has increased, I am asked to make more key decisions in the game and to be leader to my teammates. There is no question that I will be expected to step up in the playoffs and I plan to step up and do what I can.
Question:
Do you feel there is any particular weakness or something that your team is lacking that can hurt your team’s chance to
win the Class B State Championship this season?
Answer:
We aren’t necessarily lacking anything but there are certain things we need to do better. First we need to do a better job of communicating more on defense. Lastly we just need to be more focus, the playoffs are a whole new level and any game can be our last. We don’t plan to go home without a championship.
Question:
Last Question, do you guarantee that Detroit Country Day will win this season’s Class B State Championship?
Answer:
Yes I guarantee we will this season’s Class B State Championship.
